All of my breeding dogs are CERF evaluated for eye defects and OFA or PennHip tested at the appropriate age for hips. I also do genetic testing for the MDR1 gene mutation and PRA on every breeding dog in my program. I take the very best care of my dogs...I am very particular regarding dog food...no by products, no corn or wheat...and all of my dogs are on the supplement NuVet Plus. I have seen firsthand the amazing results that this supplement provides, and because I believe so strongly in it, now require NuVet Plus as part of my health guarantee. Pups are guaranteed for two years against genetic defects, and are raised in our home, underfoot, and well socialized by my 6 and 12 year olds. I have joined every breed club available to me in order to support the professional efforts of recognizing the small variety of Australian Shepherd. My first and foremost goal is to provide your family with a quality companion or show/breeding prospect of excellent temperament and that beautiful aussie conformation and coloring that made me fall in love with this breed.
I welcome any questions you may have regarding my dogs or my program--just call or email. Enjoy your visit, stay awhile, and come back anytime you'd like!
Julie Causey,
Texas Star Miniature & Toy Australian Shepherds
I brought my first mini aussie home from Kentucky in 2005, and thus began this passion. As I became more involved with the breed, I became more enamored with the toy variety, and even more dissatisfied with the quality of some of the mini's and most of the toy aussies that I was seeing. I began my search to find the smaller aussie with true aussie "type"...one that looks, feels, and moves like an aussie. My search led me to a network of breeders in the northern states and some invaluable mentors through the Toy Australian Shepherd Association of America (TASAA). I currently serve as a Board Member for TASAA, and have been elected to serve as Secretary for the 2010-2011 term. I have restructured my breeding program with the bloodlines and pedigrees needed to produce the vision that I see in my mind...the small aussie with bone, structure and type (or "the look") of the bigger australian shepherd. Keep a lookout for my new additions: they come from some of the most successful toy aussie breeders in the show ring, and are destined to become foundation dogs for my toy & mini aussie breeding program...the "stars" of Texas Star!
WELCOME!
Thank you for visiting Texas Star Miniature & Toy Australian Shepherds. We live on 26 acres in the heart of North Central Texas in the small rural community of Alvord. Located about 60 miles north of the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport, we are far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the city for our dogs to enjoy the country life we love, but close enough to enjoy the conveniences of the city. Having been a "city girl" most of my life, our move to the country several years ago has allowed me to raise my children in the wide open country air, and to realize my dream of breeding these beautiful and devoted companions.
